FLORA & FAUNA in DATCA:
Living on or merely visiting the Datça peninsula means perceiving life, enjoying life. The peninsula's geology has blessed the sea and land with an infinite number of embraces. The whole coast is dotted with extraordinarily beautiful bays and coves, surprising the sailor and the driver alike. The colour of the water in these bays varies with the light, displaying a wealth of greens and blues, all clear, all transparent.
This peninsula of 459 sq.km in area at the southwestern tip of Asia Minor , with its unspoilt nature, rich flora, high oxygen content and sparkling sea, is one of the most livable parts of our tired world . Accepted worldwide as one of the top three locations for oxygen content, Datça is one of the hundred conservation areas named in the “ Europe 's Hot spots” campaign. With no humidity to speak of and high oxygen in the air, Datça provides a natural environment for recovery from coronary and rheumatoid illnesses, calcification, circulatory problems, asthma and hypertension. The inland areas of valleys and plains between peaks of over a thousand metres benefit from a rich flora thanks to the microclimate. Datça's rare climate is partially due to its flora too. Pine forests, oaks, myrtle, mastika and other trees perfume the air with unforgettable scents. Add to this the famous almond trees of the peninsula, olive and citrus groves and vineyards getting ready to revitalize ancient Knidos once more…
If you take the road to Mesudiye or Palamutbükü coves, or even further afield, to Knidos itself, you can taste the green or ripe almonds, depending on the season, or pick your own capers from an emerald-green bush with your own hands…
